Monday November 23 2009
THE main Ring of Kerry road between Muckross and Kenmare/Sneem re-opened for the first time in three days yesterday.
Strong winds buffeted Kerry in the early hours yesterday, but water levels were not as high as previous days.
The Gap of Dunloe road at Ferry Bridge remained closed after the River Laune burst its banks on to the road over the eyes of the bridge.
Subsidence at Kilmoyley in north Kerry led to the closure of the local sportsfield. The council believes heavy rainfall led to the collapse of an underground cavern.
Water remained on many roads and the council and gardai urged caution.
Meanwhile, ESB crews worked in many areas over the weekend to tackle damage caused by heavy lightning strikes on Saturday.
The Lake Hotel in Killarney, which had to be evacuated on Friday after the region's largest lake flooded the hotel car parks and laundry rooms, was spared further damage but remained closed last night.
