Teachers plan work-to-rule over cutbacks

TEACHERS are planning a work-to-rule in 4,000 schools and Institutes of Technology to show anger at Budget cuts.
Details of the action will be worked out by leaders of the TUI, ASTI and INTO.
And one of the country's main nursing unions last night called for an all-out public service strike in January to reverse the pay cuts that were imposed in the Budget.
Psychiatric Nurses Association chief Des Kavanagh said his union's executive decided yesterday to only answer to the Budget's draconian cuts was a full-scale strike by 300,000 workers.
At a meeting yesterday, the TUI Executive Committee condemned the Budget. The meeting also decided that:
- TUI no longer agrees to be bound by the Towards 2016 agreement
- TUI will support withdrawal from social partnership
- TUI will not discuss any so-called transformation agenda
The INTO said that a protest campaign would be rolled out in the new year. This will include non co-operation, work to rule and industrial action.
