Boks hero Pienaar finds a 'lust for life'

Monday December 01 2008

IGGY POP said it, and now South Africa rugby legend Francois Pienaar is singing the same tune.

The former Springboks captain was in Ireland yesterday to launch a new website, called "Lust for Life", aimed at getting men informed about Testosterone Deficiency (TD). And symptoms of TD include tiredness, weight gain and loss of libido.

"Men all over the world are slow to visit their GP if they are concerned about their health," Pienaar said in Dublin.

The focus of the campaign is to encourage men over 40 to get in touch with their GPs and arrange an assessment if they suspect they have low testosterone levels.

Pienaar added: "Since learning about TD, I've become aware that most men accept the symptoms as a part of the aging process, however, for some, the symptoms are so severe that they significantly impact on their daily life."

The 41-year-old -- who memorably received the William Webb Ellis Cup from Nelson Mandela at the Rugby World Cup in 1995 -- added that he had heard all about the now-famous Munster Haka.

"I've just heard so much about it since I came here," he told the Irish Independent. "I have to look it up on YouTube and check it out. I've heard so much about it."
