Aviva hits surgeries with €2,000 excess

By Charlie Weston

Friday February 03 2012

FAMILIES renewing their health cover with Aviva have been warned that they will have to pay the first €2,000 themselves for some operations.

Medical procedures carried out on hips, shoulders and knees on one of the company's most popular plans are no longer fully covered by the insurer.

Aviva has told its customers that those who renew will no longer have these orthopaedic procedures fully covered on their plans.

"You will be required to pay the first €2,000 for certain planned elective procedures, such as hip or knee replacement," it said in a letter to those with the Level 2 Hospital plan.

The change in what is covered applies to nine orthopaedic procedures if they are carried out in a private hospital.
