Anne Harris is our new editor
ANNE Harris has been appointed the new Editor of the Sunday Independent. She succeeds Aengus Fanning, who passed away last month.
Ms Harris, an award-winning journalist, has been Deputy Editor of the newspaper for the past two decades, during which time the Sunday Independent has established itself as the biggest and most influential title in Ireland.
The CEO of Independent Newspapers Ireland, Joe Webb, said last night that he was delighted she had accepted the challenge of building on the tremendous legacy of Aengus Fanning.
"Anne is the most innovative, talented and dedicated media professional in Ireland. When she was appointed as Features Editor of the 'Sindo' in 1985, she set about transforming the weekly offering," said Mr Webb.
"Not content with just changing the Features pages, she very quickly moved on to putting her unique stamp on the entire product. Aengus Fanning recognised her immense talent and encouraged every change, tweak and innovation.
"The proof of her talent and leadership is in the popularity of the Sunday Independent, which is, by some distance, Ireland's favourite newspaper.
"I know that if Aengus could have chosen his successor that she would have been the only name on his list.
"We could not be more confident about an important editorial appointment and we know that Anne will continue to innovate and keep the Sunday Independent at the very heart of the national conversation."
