Animal gifts 'no use' to developing world

FAMILIES intending to buy Christmas gifts of animals for the developing world would be better off donating to other causes, Animal Aid's director has said.
Andrew Tyler told RTE that "cows and other animals are very inefficient ways of producing feed".
"In Europe, because dairy producers are subsidised by the taxpayer, they are able to carry on but even they complain they find it difficult to survive," he said.
Peter Ireton of Bothar denied buying families livestock is a very inefficient way of helping them, adding that milk is a vital source of nourishment.
