The Dan Morrissey Syndicate landed the largest ever jackpot on the National Lottery, but several other winners have come close ...

> €16,185,749 -- Paul and Helen Cunningham and their four children from Cork had much to celebrate on the August Bank Holiday in 2007 when they won the record draw on July 28. After several days playing cat and mouse with the media they arrived to much fanfare at Lotto HQ in Dublin to claim their millions.

> €15,658,143 -- On April

26 this year, an unknown family from Clondalkin in Dublin scooped the second biggest prize up to that point.

> €14,553,033 -- Another anonymous winner, this time a two-man syndicate walked away with over €7m each when their numbers came up on March 11 this year.

> €13,295,379 -- A quickpick ticket ensured a great Christmas present for another anonymous syndicate from Loughrea in Galway. The December 22, 2007 draw was collected days after Christmas.

> €10,667,238 -- A syndicate known as the 'Famous Five', from Tuam in Galway, walked off with more than €2m per person when they got lucky on September 12 last year.

McAreavey suspect accuses police
