MORE than 3,400 parents have been issued with penalty points for allowing children to travel in the car without wearing seat belts.
A total of 2,257 parents were hit with points for not having children strapped in in the back seats, and a further 1,169 in the front passenger seat.
Despite the ban on hand-held mobile phones while driving, it appears that the message is still not getting through to many motorists that this practice has caused fatal crashes involving both lorries and cars.
A total of 21,455 drivers have been issued penalty points for using their mobile phones while driving.
With increasing concern about the safe passage of children travelling to and from school, it has also emerged that some 24 motorists were nabbed for failing to obey the instructions of school traffic wardens.
Then there is the out and out wally, who insists on driving down the wrong side of the motorway, forcing ongoing drivers to honk their horns and frantically flash lights.
Some 23 drivers were caught in this predicament and duly got points.
Meanwhile, another 521 got them for driving their vehicles on the wrong side of the road.
