€1bn British Navy destroyer visits
The British Navy's newest and most powerful destroyer, HMS Daring, slipped into Dublin Port yesterday on what is believed to be her first overseas deployment.
The €1bn vessel, which has a crew of 190 and is regarded as one of the most sophisticated warships in the world, is on a four-day visit to Dublin.
Diageo toasted at Green Awards
DIAGEO Ireland has been awarded the overall business award at the Green Awards held in Dublin last night.
Sponsored by the Irish Independent, the drinks company was honoured for its efforts to reduce water consumption and waste. Airtricity, Ecocem and the Mater Hospital were also honoured.
Life boat rescues stranded anglers
TWO men out fishing had to be rescued by life boat last night after they were left stranded when their small boat developed engine problems.
They were 16 miles south east of Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin, when the engine on their 21-foot angling boat failed shortly after 3pm. The rescue operation lasted for more than three hours. No one was injured.
Renewed appeal for missing man
GARDAI have appealed for help in trying to track down a 38-year-old man in Dublin.
Sean Donohoe has been missing from his home at Sarsfield Road in Ballyfermot since March 3. He is described as being 5'8'' tall, of slight build with short blond hair and blue eyes. He was wearing blue jeans, a cream-coloured cardigan and a black jumper when last seen.
