The people you need to have on speed-dial when scandal strikes

Max Clifford and Matthew Freud:

In the UK, Clifford handles the drug-addled pop stars, the serial celebrity kiss'n'tell bimbos and the Premiership footballers who can't keep it in their pants.

Clifford has excellent contacts, knows how to work the public and can even sell Kerry Katona as a sensible housewife who likes nothing better than shopping for bargains at her local frozen food store. Matthew Freud, who has very close links to New Labour, is the man the politicians go to when the excrement hits the ventilation device.

Oprah Winfrey:

When Madonna needed to put her side of the Malawian baby adoption story across, she followed the long line of celebs in trouble who have sat down with the queen of the confessional couch.

Larry King:

Not so well known on these shores, King's long-running CNN talk show has been the one-stop shop for contrite celebs. Recently, he devoted an entire hour to the musings of recently incarcerated and misunderstood celeb Paris Hilton.
