Unicef Ireland was founded in 1962 with the purpose of raising funds for Unicef's worldwide emergency and development work.
In 2008, the Irish division raised €5.29m for the charity's work with children worldwide and the Government contributed €24.25m.
Unicef is not funded by the UN. Instead, the organisation relies on voluntary donations to fund its work for children worldwide.
Irish Unicef ambassadors include: actors Pierce Brosnan, Stephen Rae and Gabriel Byrne; rugby star Donncha O'Callaghan; author Cathy Kelly; TV hosts Ryan Tubridy and Dustin the Turkey; and television actress Leigh Arnold.
