Tragic Triona's family plan Cystic Fibrosis appeal

Triona Priestley

Tragic Triona Priestley's family have pledged that her death will not be in vain and have called on the nation to help fight Cystic Fibrosis.

The teenager passed away on Tuesday -- just after her hero Ed Sheeran called to sing her a song. Triona (15) who had been fighting Cystic Fibrosis since birth finally lost her battle on April 1.

But before she passed Triona's friends sparked an online campaign to have her dying wish granted -- and her idol Ed Sheeran ultimately did that and "sang her to sleep".

And amid heartbreaking funeral preparations her mum Bernie has made contact with Cystic Fibrosis Ireland to "seek the nation's help" to honour of her young daughter and continue fighting the disease.

The CEO of Cystic Fibrosis Ireland (CFI), Philip Watt said that Triona and her family from Clonsilla were hugely involved in fundraising.

And they want to leave a legacy to their brave little girl.

"She tried to live an ordinary live in an extraordinary way as best she could, right up to the end," Mr Watt said.

Mr Watt said that that they do not know yet what the focus of the appeal will be, as they have to sit down with the Priestley family at some later stage, adding that he is deeply conscious of their grief.

"They think it is what Triona herself would have wanted," he said.

"The family are going to come in to us after the funeral -- we will give them time to grieve and then hopefully we will do something in memory of her," said Mr Watt.

Yesterday Triona's friends at Castleknock Community College wore purple (the colour associated with CF awareness ) in her honour.

Triona's funeral takes place tomorrow at St Mochta's Church, Porterstown at 12 noon followed by burial in Mulhuddart Cemetery.

The family have asked for donations to Cystic Fibrosis Ireland and Temple Street Hospital.
