The Irish Independent's fantastic children's book collection, Disney Literature Classics continues tomorrow, Saturday November 28 with Book 10 in the series, Uncle Scrooge Journeys to the Centre of the Earth.
The Disney Literature Classics Collection is the perfect way to introduce children to the whole world of classic tales in a colourful, fun and accessible manner. There are 20 books in the series, covering some of the most exciting stories of all time, from Daisy Duck in the Wonderful World of Oz, to Donald's Odyssey, and Donald Duck in the Lost World.
Irish Independent readers can collect the Disney Literature Classics every week from participating outlets for the subsidised price of just €4.99, plus a token found daily on page two of your paper. This allows readers to buy these entertaining books at a hugely discounted price, fully illustrated hardback books that would normally retail for up to €15. The series contains 20 brilliant books; don't miss out -- start collecting straight away!
When you collect the whole series, together the spines show a colourful tableau of all the favourite Disney characters, which would look fantastic on any child's book shelves.
Uncle Scrooge Journeys to the Centre of the Earth is based on the famous adventure tale by Jules Verne, first published in 1864, inspired by the experiences of a French geographer who had made detailed studies of European volcanoes. Verne also wrote Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea and The Mysterious Island. His books have proved popular with readers of all ages for their exciting ideas and thrilling adventures.
In this parody of Journey to the Centre of the Earth, Uncle Scrooge takes Donald and the nephews off to look for an abandoned mine and they end up falling into an underground sea from which they are rescued by Professor Liedenbrock. The ducks are, of course, on the Liedenbrock Sea at the centre of the earth. The Professor is living there and remains ageless thanks to the 'fern of longevity' growing in his prehistoric garden. Scrooge strikes gold and has to be dissuaded from excavating a mine in the Professor's home and destroying his peace.
It's never too early to introduce children to books, and this collection would be an asset to any household, library or school. Look out for book eleven, That Missing Candelabra, next week.
