The 70-year-old new mother
The world's oldest mum is Omkari Panwar, who gave birth in July 2008 aged 70. The Indian septuagenarian and her retired farmer husband (then 77) sold their livestock, mortgaged their land, spent their life savings and took out a credit card loan to pay for IVF treatment, in a desperate bid to secure a male heir.
It paid off when the couple, who already have two adult daughters, gave birth to twins -- a boy and a girl -- by emergency C-section in hospital in Muzaffarnagar.
Mrs Panwar said: "For eight months the pregnancy was hectic and painful. But I have given birth before, so I knew what to expect. Sometimes you have to face the pain if you want something good."
