Smart Consumer: The two-year warranty on my daughter's Peugeot expired a month early

Marie McWeeney contacted Smart Consumer on behalf of her daughter who purchased a new Peugeot in May 2008 from a car dealer.
Marie writes: "The driver's window was giving trouble, so she took it back to the garage in May this year, which was inside the warranty date of two years."
But the warranty had expired at the end of the previous month, one month shy of the two-year warranty she thought she had.
She continues: "The garage said they would contact head office and get back to her, but she hasn't heard a thing since.
"She felt very bad about being treated this way as she has bought three new cars from them".
Smart Consumer contacted Peugeot who explained that the car had been pre-registered at the end of April, almost a month before Marie's daughter bought the car, and so the two-year warranty ran from the registration date.
A spokesperson for Peugeot says: "The warranty start date is stamped on the warranty certificate on the customer's vehicle handbook supplied with all our new Peugeot vehicles."
But Peugeot has agreed to repair the car door. Their spokesman says: "As the warranty has recently expired, we will offer the part needed as a goodwill gesture. The dealer will contribute towards the labour cost of the repair."
