Sean Wolohan (65) lives on his own in accommodation provided by Alone, a Dublin-based organisation that helps older people in need. He says: "Two years ago I was living in a hostel and hit rock bottom. I had separated from my partner, moved out of our family home and lost my job. Compared to where I was, where I'm living now is much, much better. "I'm lonely, but I'm happy.
"My place is beautiful and there's no one hassling me or bothering me. I've a man living next door that I look out for.
"Every day I go for a long walk and I like to stop and chat to people or help anyone if they need it.
"In the evenings I watch TV, especially if the rugby's on.
"The worst thing is sitting down at the table to eat. I love cooking but my table has four chairs and there's only me at it.
"I grew up in a house with seven brothers and three sisters and I miss the talk at the table and arguing over who would have the last slice of bread."
