Recent research has shown that buyers are aiming mainly for houses rather than apartments and most of them are looking for bargains priced at less than €175,000.

Such buyers will be encouraged by the launch this week of two and three bedroom houses at Barnwell, Hansfield in Dublin 15.

The three bedroom town house, which extends to 93sqm, is priced at €154,950 -- half the price at which similar houses were sold for when the Barnwell development was originally launched in 2008. At the peak of the market similar houses in the area were fetching €360,000.

Now receiver Tom Kavanagh of Kavanagh Fennell has decided to sell off the last 30 houses in the estate which was developed by Joe Moran's Manor Park Homes. He is also selling 75.5sqm two bedroom town houses in Barnwell for €119,950 -- down 56pc.

Each of the houses are spacious and well laid out with both a very generous main reception room and kitchen. All kitchens come with an attractive stainless steel extractor fan and splash back as standard. Powered by gas fired central heating, the houses come with pull down attic ladder as standard and those attics are suitable for conversion in most houses.

The homes also benefit from a good sized rear garden while car parking is available on a communal basis.

Part of Barnwell's appeal is its transport links with the 39, 39A and 39X routes all running along the Ongar Road with 28 buses leaving before 9am. Clonsilla Train Station is a 20 minute walk away or five minutes by bus and the train journey to the city centre is just 35 minutes. Barnwell's residents' children can attend the primary school at Ongar, which opened in September 2008.

The development comprises a total of 210 houses and most of the houses in the development are occupied. According to Ronan O'Driscoll of Savills "The houses in Barnwell Hansfield have been dramatically reduced in price and are now available at about half their 2008 prices. We are expecting huge interest in the last remaining homes in the development, as this is an excellent opportunity for people to buy a brand new house at such an attractive price.''

Show houses are on view Saturday and Sunday 12-2pm or by appointment.
