A Victorian home for €1.9m? A work of art
Former couturier and gallery owner's house in exclusive suburb is lovingly restored to former glory
Sunday November 08 2009
FORMER couturier Ib Jorgensen is selling his house, which is widely regarded to be the finest on Haddington Road in Ballsbridge, Dublin.
Restored to its former glory, with original Victorian fireplaces, high ceilings, beautiful cornicing and sash windows, the 2,475 sq ft, two-storey over garden level, period residence has four elegant reception rooms and three bedrooms, complemented by a modern kitchen and bathroom.
There is also a pleasant front garden, and a sunny and compact patio to the rear that can be easily maintained.
It is believed that Mr Jorgensen, whose gallery is on Herbert Street, hopes to move to a smaller house next year.
Viewing is by appointment with Owen Reilly Property Consultants and the property is on the market for €1.9m.

BUILDER David Wright, brother of Wright Venue nightclub owner Michael, is selling the newly built house at Number 1, Swan Lake.
A three-bed, three-bath, luxury, multi-level, architect-designed home in Islandbridge, Dublin 8, it is right on the river.
Featuring a private jetty and a deck overlooking the Liffey, the house also features a cinema room -- complete with lazy boy chairs -- and a rather Bond-esque turntable garage.
The swanky €1.8m pad is close to Heuston Station and a 30-minute walk from O'Connell Bridge.

THE €3m asking price for a block of 30 apartments in Dublin 15 was recently held up as a sign of how much prices for apartments have plummeted.
Fuelled by generous tax breaks -- such as Section 23 -- for those who invested in them, similar buildings now blot the landscape throughout the country.
While the average price in the above example is €100,000, go as far as you can from Dublin, to the Tanaiste's native county of Donegal, and two-beds in Letterkenny and Bundoran are priced at €60,000.
What appears to be the cheapest apartment in the country at the moment is for sale in the county of Longford; a one-bed, one-bath in Abbeylara on the market for €59,000.
