We have all revelled in the endless stories of athletes getting lost for hours on end, because official Olympic drivers could not find their way.
Oh, how we roared when organisers of Wednesday's women's soccer match involving North Korea showed the South Korean flag by mistake.
Would we do much better if we ran the show?
Back in the 1990s, when the idea of Ireland hosting the Games was mooted, Ireland's Olympic boss Pat Hickey memorably suggested: "We couldn't even build the jacks."
Meanwhile in America, chat-show hosts are showing us Europeans little sympathy.
