When sat-nav goes horribly wrong
Sunday May 17 2009
I AM hearing a lot of stories about the idiocies of sat-nav systems. Sometimes it is fun to be taken down a country lane instead of a motorway but other times it can be very frightening, especially at night.
I have been told that settings for Birr in Offaly from Dublin have often resulted in people finding themselves at the top of Slieve Bloom.
One motorist was terrified when this happened recently and she found herself lost at midnight in thick fog on the mountain.
Most of the systems still have major teething problems and even some of the most expensive in-car models have led me a merry dance around the countryside. So, be careful.
