Motoring

Final words from one of the greats

Sunday February 19 2012

FERDIA O'Dowd, the motoring correspondent of the Sunday Business Post, pens his last column today.

A man of class and manners who is an exotic flower in the garden where so many of us are mere dandelions, it was Ferdia's fate to live to the very fullest the maxim that it was better to love and lose than never have loved at all.

He is a fine writer and critic with an immense knowledge of the motor industry, farming and many aspects of commercial life.

Ferdia has a passion for truth that makes him scathing of bureaucracy and red tape.

Over the years, we shared many a drive, press conference and fine glass of wine. He could chat to the humblest and greatest with ease -- often in their own language. That he is now fighting Motor Neurone Disease is especially sad as already his fine voice and art of conversation have been silenced.

Bless you Ferdia, keep fighting, keep your passion.

You are a fine man and a wonderful journalist for whom I will always have the utmost respect.
