Electric cars will be norm by 2020, says Minister
ELECTRIC cars will be the norm on streets in towns and cities by 2020, Green Party Minister Eamon Ryan predicted yesterday.
As he ushered in an era of lower carbon emissions with tomorrow's changes to the Vehicle Registration Tax and motor tax, the Energy Minister emphasised the benefits of the first proposed charging points for electric vehicles.
"Anyone who is getting to work, going to the shops, whatever -- where it's a short trip; where you can charge up at the other end -- that makes electric vehicles really viable. My prediction for 2020 is we will see electric vehicles as a mainstream option," he said.
Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is the first authority to explore a Green Party idea to install an electric car recharging point.
