Diesel hybrid gives Peugeot a world first

Wednesday August 25 2010
PEUGEOT this week unveiled the first production diesel electric hybrid, due here late next summer or autumn.
The 3008 Hybrid4 has a 2-litre HDi diesel (163bhp) with stop-start technology and a 37bhp electric motor.
The intriguing thing is that the diesel engine powers the front wheels while the electric motor drives the rear wheels.
According to the French maker, its world-first combination means drivers can get as much as 74.4mpg while CO2 emissions are 99g/km.
According to Peugeot, that's 30pc better than the figures for a petrol-electric hybrid.
There are four different driving modes in the 3008 Hybrid4. They include Auto, Sport, four-wheel-drive and an all-electric mode called ZEV (Zero Emissions Vehicle).
