Chevrolet frightened off Irish market by 'uncertainty'

CHEVROLET has told Independent Motors that it has decided to scale down its plans to sell cars here this year.

Amidst much publicity, the company had previously announced its intention to compete vigorously here.

But a spokeswoman told us that "the uncertainty in the Irish financial and new-car buyers' market" had prompted the company to "scale down operations for selling new Chevrolet cars in Ireland".

The marque is maintaining an after-sales network here which provides Chevrolet parts, service and warranty to existing customers.

It has agreements with 10 authorised repairers in the country.

When asked about the possibility of returning next year, the spokes-woman said Chevrolet had not made any market decisions for 2014.
