CELEBRITY chef Neven Maguire and wife Amelda won't risk having another baby for the sake of their 15-month-old twins.

Amelda suffered from heart failure following the birth of little Conor and Lucia last year.

And the couple were advised by a heart specialist that it was too much of a risk for Amelda to become pregnant again.

Fully recovered, Amelda said she will never take her health for granted again.

"I feel 100pc, it's amazing. You say when you are sick you'll never take your health for granted again, but you forget then. I almost think that was somebody else that happened to.

"It makes you not want to lose a minute with the children, you want to enjoy every stage they are at.

"The heart specialist advised me it was too much of a risk to go again. Maybe if we only had one I would feel differently but I don't feel as bad because we have two children and I do feel complete.

"I enjoy my time with Conor and Lucia too much to risk not being around for them," she said.

Neven agreed with his wife, saying after seeing how ill she became following the birth of their children, he didn't want her to go through that again.

The couple were speaking at the launch of a new initiative to get mums and mums-to-be to take more notice of their nutrition.

The First 1,000 Days covers four key stages – pregnancy, breastfeeding, weaning and toddlers.

Healthy

"As a father with a young family, I'm very much aware of the importance of nutrition, especially at the formative time of life," Neven said.

"During the first 1,000 days, from pregnancy right through to the toddler stage, it's important children are exposed to a wide range of foods so their taste buds develop in a healthy way.

Danone Baby Nutrition, in association with the Irish Nutrition and Dietetic Institute, has issued a special recipe book to assist parents.

And award-winning chef Neven has supplied recipes.
