SHARON Corr has revealed there have been "tears shed" in her family over a decision by sister Andrea to name her first child after their late mother Jean.
The singer, who is married to financier Brett Desmond, gave birth to daughter Jean in London on Saturday.
Jean Corr died aged 57 from a rare lung condition while awaiting a transplant operation at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne, in the UK, on November 24, 1999.
Mother of Corrs members Caroline, Sharon, Andrea and Jim, she performed with their father Gerry and often brought their children to their performances.
Sharon spoke of the emotion felt by the family over the couple's decision to name their daughter after their late mother.
"It's very special this has happened. There have been tears over it. It's really beautiful," Sharon told the Irish Independent.
The violinist said that while her sister Caroline had offered her advice after the birth of her first child, there was a limit on the advice she would offer to younger sister Andrea.
"Caroline was the first to go and we always gave each other tips but being a mother is an individual learning curve and it's more instinct than anything," she said.
With plans to record her second album later this year, she said Andrea's addition would make any plans to reform The Corrs unlikely in the near future.
"Andrea has her hands full right now but I would never say never," she said.
