The first Glastonbury Festival was held on the day after Jimi Hendrix died in 1970. Musical acts included Marc Bolan, Keith Christmas, Stackridge, Al Stewart and Quintessence.
One and a half thousand people attended, and entrance cost £1 which included free milk from the farm in Somerset where the festival continues to be held.
Today Glastonbury is the largest outdoor music and performing arts festival in the world. It’ll take place between Wednesday June 25 and Sunday June 29.
Metallica will make their first ever appearance, and join Arcade Fire and Kasabian as the headline acts.
Other acts will include Dolly Parton, Lana Del Rey, Lily Allen and Robert Plant.
