John leaves his Mark on hero's CD

Dublin author John Connolly has scooped all sorts of literary awards for his crime thrillers but tells me he is more chuffed to have supplied the title of the new album by the former lead singer of cult US band Red House Painters.

Among the Leaves is named after a passage singer Mark Kozelek -- who now records as Sun Kil Moon -- found in one of John's novels.

"This is one of the highest compliments my odd little books have ever had; that anyone would title an album from words I'd written is a huge compliment," John told me on the phone from South Africa, where he is researching a novel.

Kozelek previously allowed the writer to use Red House Painters' song 'Summer Dress' on a CD compilation for one of his Charlie Parker novels.

"I met Mark after a gig he played in Dublin and have stayed in touch by letter. I'm just a huge admirer of his work, and think he's one of the great songwriters of our time, with an extraordinary, moving voice," John said.

Expect John to be in the audience when Mark Kozelek plays The Button Factory in Temple Bar, Dublin, on November 7.
