What men and women really talk about . . .
Wednesday Feb 8 2012
"Well, you talk about us . . . don't you?" a male friend asked tentatively when prompted to name the top five topics that men think women talk about.
Wrong again.
Shopping, food and sex were the top topics in a survey of British women with relationship problems with men coming further down the line. Plastic surgery, mothers-in-law and television soaps were also in the list of top 20 subjects.
While the survey found that women spend on average five hours a day gossiping, nearly 24 minutes is spent discussing dress size, weight and diet. Celebrities, childcare, films, sport, books and travel also made the grade.
Other studies have shown that, unlike women, men tend to stick to just four topics when talking to other men: work, sport, jokes and women.
Men were also more likely to divulge some gossip or chat with work colleagues, partners and female friends while women tend to share information with other female friends or their mothers.
