Tips for charity shop chic

Go with an open mind and time on your hands. Do not go mission hunting: if you go looking for a dress, you are likely to find everything but a dress. Take it as it comes. Some things will feel funny or smell a little, but do not let this come between you and a bargain. Washing can work wonders, as can a resole for well-worn but still lovable shoes. Do not be embarrassed about spending ages in one shop -- fashion finds don't come without effort and patience. Fine-tooth comb the rails and stick your head in bargain baskets. Ignore the labels. Sometimes I found myself wanting to buy an item solely because it was designer and €6, regardless of how it looked, so don't get carried away.
