Donna Karan models boasted make-up with an "eccentric, modern twist" at New York Fashion Week.

The women took to the catwalk with edgy red eye-shadow and pale pink lips on Monday, referencing Karan’s “tailored, handsome collection”.

Cosmetics artist Charlotte Tilbury explained “it’s all about the eyes” and revealed the inspiration behind the look she created for the androgynous outfits.
The make-up expert wanted to incorporate the Karan’s colour palette of grey, black and red into the look, but with an unexpected twist.
To suit the chic but edgy designs, Tilbury came up with the idea of “cherry, chocolate-y” eyes, style.com revealed.
“We didn’t want to go too retro with a red lip so we thought, ‘How do you give it an eccentric, modern twist?’” she explained.
Hair stylist Eugene Souleiman explained how he created a style that wouldn’t take attention away from the Karan models’ hats.
The hair pro came up with a side roll that sits at an angle underneath the headpieces. “[It’s] a detail that was quite graphic and quite ornate. It’s masculine and refined,” he said.
At Carolina Herrera, it was all about big, voluminous hair. The retro do worked perfectly with the label’s classy, feminine Fall/Winter12 creations, which were inspired by an artist’s studio.
Swept back from the model’s faces with a simple elastic headband, stylist Orlando Pita described the look as “bold and graphic”.
To create height and hold for the do, the hair expert backcombed the strands heavily and used Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray Strong to fixate.
“She wanted big hair, big hair. It’s nice to do something different - to break the mould,” Pita told the site.
According to beauty expert Diane Kendal, make-up on the Herrera catwalk was kept “fresh and bare” to avoid clashing with the big hair.
