Gisele, the girl from Ipanema, is on her way here
Friday September 14 2007
The gorgeous catwalk queen is tipped to be flying in especially to promote her latest venture, a line of eco-friendly flip-flops called Ipanema.
The Brazilian bombshell, who is currently dating US footballer Tom Brady, has lent her hand to designing the exclusive range of footwear in a bid to help save the rainforest in her native South America.
Gisele teamed up with female clothing manufacturer Grendene to produce the range of Ipanema flip flops last year after the model expressed a personal interest in the range.
The idea was to provide an opportunity to the Kisedje Indians to create a unique product for the Ipanema Gisele Bundchen Y Ikatu Xingu footwear collection 2007.
The collection of footwear, inspired by the legends of the Brazilian Indian people and the environmental issues faced by them, are already available in other parts of the world, including France.
However, following the huge success of other Brazilian sandals here including the ever popular Havaianas, the supermodel has scheduled a trip to promote her own range of super cushioned flip flops here.
And before leaving, Bundchen is believed to have been given a little helpful advice from her famous pals, which include Irish rocker Bono, to refrain from making the backwards peace sign.
The model was informed that her trademark pose of flashing two fingers for photographers has a very different meaning on Irish shores.
A percentage of all the profits from the flip flops, which are expected to range from €20-€40 per pair, will support the campaign.
The supermodel is responsible for personally hand- picking the tribal imageries that are found on the insoles of all the sandals in the collection.
The exact date of where and when the supermodel will be appearing is being kept a closely guarded secret.
However the supermodel's visit is likely to create a similar hype to the last international beauty who visited Ireland, Paris Hilton.
The American socialite attracted her normal crowd of thousands of admirers when launching her new fragrance, Heiress, at the BT2 'fashion and lifestyle' store on Dublin's Grafton Street last November.
Bundchen's fellow supermodels including Naomi Campbell, Elle McPherson and Helena Christensen have also attracted huge crowds on promotional trips to Dublin in the past.
