US TV show cancels Adam Lambert

Wednesday November 25 2009

Adam Lambert's racy American Music Awards performance has cost him a gig on TV show Good Morning America.

The former American Idol contestant was set to sing on the show but ABC said it was cancelling the singer following his raunchy performance at the ceremony, because "we were concerned about airing a similar concert so early in the morning".

While singing his song For Your Entertainment at the event at the weekend, Lambert kissed a male keyboardist, fondled a dancer and had another dancer briefly stuff his face in his crotch - although that moment was cut out when the awards show was broadcast on the US West Coast on Sunday.

The performance prompted many complaints to ABC.

"Obviously, I respect their decision - they gotta do what they gotta do," Lambert, who is openly gay, said in an interview with Ryan Seacrest. "It's too bad - I think there were a lot of fans who were excited to come see me."

"They probably had a lot of pressure coming at them from certain people who weren't happy about it," he said.

ABC News' top management made the decision to cancel Lambert, a spokeswoman said. She said there was no pressure from ABC's parent The Walt Disney Co.

The network has indicated it felt burned because Lambert went further on the air than he did in rehearsals.

Lambert is set to appear on CBS' The Early Show. He won't sing For Your Entertainment, but will perform two other songs instead. He is also due to appear on David Letterman's Late Show.
