Passengers stranded on one of the Eurostar trains claimed that Claudia Schiffer, the model, was given special treatment.

Miss Schiffer who is thought to have been travelling in first class to London, is said to have got off at Folkestone while other passengers were detained on board.

Gregoire Sentilhes, from Paris, who was on the train with his wife and three children, said: “A car came right by the train to pick her up from the entrance to the tunnel. Nothing for the other 2,000 people, though.”

Miss Schiffer regularly travels first class on Eurostar between London, where she lives, and Paris, where the cosmetics firm L’Oreal, for whom she is an ambassador, is based.

When Richard Brown, the chief executive of Eurostar, was asked whether Miss Schiffer had been given special help to get home while people in wheelchairs and pregnant women were left to fend for themselves, he said: “She travels anonymously so I can’t confirm it.”
