Tim Roth has joked that his role as a deception expert on US drama Lie To Me has led to his children not trusting him.

"My kids do [think I'm testing them] and I don't!" the actor laughed.

He said people assume he is trying to spot liars in real-life since he took on the part.

He laughed: "The micro expression stuff, you do see it, I could see them do stuff, but I don't! It's all about busting them for not doing their homework, that's all it's about."

And the actor insists he hasn't mastered the facial-reading techniques shown on the TV series.

"I look at the script, learn it, get involved in the drama and move through, but it does surprise me sometimes," he added.

"Quite often people come up to me and talk to me about it and I think they practice on each other. You get a lot of people, like boyfriends and girlfriends, they get a bit of the science that has happened that week and they try it out on each other. I think that's quite dangerous myself but it seems to be part of the fun!"

Lie To Me is broadcast on Sky1 HD and Sky1 every Thursday at 10pm.
