YOU thought the economist's talents stopped at kitten-drowning? I think he's a man who knows 100 ways of making love but doesn't know any women. And that's why we should listen more to the women and less to the economists (but enough about George Lee).
There is a coterie of Irish women who, despite the economic downturn, can always be trusted to do their best to push Ireland out of the recession. I refer to the women who continue to support fashion in this country and attend events at Brown Thomas, Khan and Harvey Nichols week in, week out. And to retailers such as Aisling Kilduff of the Design Centre who insist on supporting our battling Irish designers.
Not to mention celebrities such as Rosanna Davison who go even further afield to promote Ireland.
The former Miss World could have her pick from the shops. Instead, she chose to take eight of Irish designer Jennifer Rothwell's latest gunas to the Cannes Film Festival where she showcased them as only Rosanna can.
"Jen very kindly lent me a selection of her dresses from her new collection to wear in Cannes," Rosanna told me.
Another queen of can-do is Lisa Cummins, that stunning stalwart of the Irish Models. She has resumed her modelling career at her friend John Compton's agency and the work -- quelle surprise -- is flying in for the Dublin beauty. She took last year off, as she told me, "to retreat because I had been pushing myself too hard. I needed a break. My partner has a lovely place in Kildare so I just took some time out for myself".
And on the subjects of lovely faces in lovely places, Laura Toogood (who Ryan Tubridy once took a shine to) has moved in with her boyfriend Nicky Arnold, younger brother The Clinic's Leigh. Nicky has followed his father David into the property game.
And I have no doubt that when the economists recognise the mess they have made of everything and do us all a favour by butting out, property will become the good game again.showcase: Rosanna Davison
