Nighy: Stage fright like illness

Friday November 27 2009

Bill Nighy has revealed that he still suffers from stage fright.

The veteran British star, whose acting career on stage and in films spans over three decades, has spoken out about his stage fright, describing it like an "illness".

"It is true, I deal with it all of the time and it gets worse and worse - it's like an illness," said Bill, who stars in animated comedy G-Force with Nicolas Cage.

"You get a shortness of breath, you get a slight lightheadedness and you feel nauseous. When I do a play, it's like agreeing to be ill for a couple of months."

Bill, who will play Minister for Magic Rufus Scrimgeour in the upcoming Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows, has to talk himself out of it, so he can conquer his fears.

"I acknowledge the fact that it's absolutely normal and appropriate to be scared. Everyone is scared," he added.

"I know really, really famous people who are terrified every time they walk onto a stage - but it's all right because you can operate whilst being frightened. When you're nervous, it doesn't stop you from doing what you've got to do. Otherwise, no one would be able to do it."

:: G-Force will be released in DVD on November 30.
