Bono has been given the go-ahead to instal a wood-pellet boiler to heat his Victorian mansion.

The U2 singer and his wife Ali Hewson have been granted permission by Dun Laoghaire Rathdown co council to a develop a room below their two-storey house to put in the hi-tech heating system.

They had applied to build the 53sqm 'plant' room at their 'Temple Hill' home on Vico road in Killiney, south Co Dublin.

Council officials raised no objections to the development and recommended that permission be granted.

The picturesque house is located in a conservation area which makes up a large part of the south-east slopes of Killiney Hill. However, Bono's home is not a protected structure.

No objections were lodged to the development of the room for the wood-pellet boiler up to the deadline last month.

A record from one of the planning officials said the proposed development would not take away from the residential amenity of the area.
