CORONATION Street's Kym Ryder said being a mother is "the most rewarding job of all'' as she was crowned Mum of the Year today.
Tesco Magazine's Celebrity Mum of the Year judges – including the Prime Minister's wife Sarah Brown – hailed her as “a role model to mums everywhere'' for juggling a busy career with motherhood.
Ryder (31) plays barmaid Michelle Connor in the TV3 soap and is mum to David, (12) and Emily (10).
The former Hear'Say star accepted her award today at a ceremony in London's Waldorf Hilton Hotel. She was joined by 10 other mums honoured for their special achievements.
Ryder, who attended the ceremony with mother Pauline Marsh and Ryder's two children, said: “I'm not the best mum, my mum's the best mum . . .
HYPOCRITICAL
“Being a mum is the most rewarding job of all.'' The star said she wouldn't stop her daughter entering a reality contest as she did as it would be “hypocritical''.
She said: “I watch X-Factor. If you can get talent like Leona Lewis they're still worth doing.''
Ryder said she was not brave enough to enter shows like Dancing On Ice like fellow ex-bandmate Suzanne Shaw.
She said of Shaw, who chipped an ankle bone during rehearsals: “If she's going out it's going to be dreadful because she's worked so hard.''
Ryder who joked she may need to use a tablecloth during the ceremony to wipe her eyes said her family were a strong support network.
Daughter Emily said she was “really proud'' of her mum.
Ryder's mother added: “It's fantastic. I'm very proud.''
Later accepting her award Ryder said her children pushed her through.
Speaking to her mother in the audience, Ryder said: “If I can be half the mum you are then I'm really happy.
“I love you.''
Ryder is not the first ex-Hear'Say star to be recognised for her mothering skills as Shaw was named La Redoute Celebrity Mum of the Year at a separate ceremony last week.
