NEWLY crowned Miss Ireland Blathnaid McKenna is already living the high life.
After being crowned in Cork on Saturday night, she took a helicopter to yesterday's Derby at the Curragh where she used to work.
The 21-year-old from Tully East, Co Kildare, said she "couldn't believe" her win.
The Trinity graduate, who just received her degree in Italian and French, was crowned at the Sliver Springs Moran Hotel.
"I'm absolutely thrilled. I'm also very shocked," said Blathnaid, pictured right as her victory was announced.
"I didn't think I was going to win. It really was anyone's game. Everyone was on the same level. There wasn't one girl there who didn't deserve it. It's something a girl would dream of but I never thought I would get it."
She will now be Ireland's entry into the annual Miss World competition in Sanya, China, in November. Although the bookies' favourite at 20-1, she says she isn't going to think about it too much.
