John Galliano has reportedly been arrested for assault and making anti-Semitic remarks.
The flamboyant designer is the creative director of fashion house Dior. He is understood to have been taken into custody in Paris last night following an argument in the Marais area of the city.
According to AFP, he was apprehended for assault and making offensive comments to a couple who were enjoying an evening at a cafe.
“For the moment we don't know what led him to address the couple,” a police source told the agency.
Galliano had reportedly been drinking alcohol at the time of his arrest. He has now been released, and it remains unknown whether he will be charged.
Dior has been contacted for a comment, but a spokesman insisted they had no information at the time.
The 50-year-old star is due to unveil his latest collection for the top French label at Paris Fashion Week next month.
According to Reuters, a police source has said the incident was promoted by stress ahead of the presentation.
