Angelina Jolie admits she and dad Jon Voight can never talk about the past
Monday Dec 5 2011
THE Hollywood star has admitted that she and her father, who did not speak for nearly a decade, have not discussed their feud since they reconciled.
In an interview with US TV network CBS, Jolie suggested that if they discuss the rows that were a part of her childhood, then their fragile relationship may fall apart again.
Jolie and her father became involved in one of Hollywood's most famous family feuds in showbusiness since 2001, when Voight told Access Hollywood that his daughter had "serious mental problems" and pleaded with her to seek help.
Jolie responded with a public statement saying she did not think it was "healthy" for her to be around her father.
Relations had already become strained after Jolie learned Voight had had an affair behind her mother's back.
Last year, the pair were photographed together for the first time in several years, suggesting they have healed their long rift. It is thought Jolie's partner Brad Pitt was behind the reconciliation.
In the interview, Jolie said: "I thought about my children never meeting their grandfather.
"I thought about my brother only having one parent and only one family member alive and I thought about my father being alone and discussed that the best thing we could do would be to meet and talk, but that we would only be able to do this if we never spoke about the past again."
Last month, Jolie said that she would have pursued a career as a funeral director had she failed to make the grade as a Hollywood actress.
She also said she was lucky to be alive given her wild past.
