I admit it, I'm a bigot about gingers
I was at a dinner party this week and I heard a very scary new term bandied about: "sexual racist." Apparently it means someone who's not "into" a certain ethnic group, sexually. So even if you have no feelings either way about, say, Asian people, not wanting to sleep with them makes you a racist (of sorts). And being incredibly eager to sleep with Asian people doesn't get you off the hook either, apparently. This means you're "objectifying them", you racist Rice Queen, you.
Regular readers will know I'm always super careful about being politically correct, but I could see this was going to be a minefield. I mean, what about red-heads? Are they a race? Some of my closest friends are afflicted so, but I've never felt bad about ruling gingers out as a group. Hector O hEochagain is my "Margaret Thatcher in Y-Fronts", mental cold shower. All I have to do is imagine him and I'm off sex 'til January (try it yourself -- it works wonders).
And I think I'm allowed to say that because he's white and I sometimes get ginger hairs in my beard. But this whole business of seeing sexual preferences as "discrimination" or "racism" had me seriously worried. Do we now have to say "yes" to the older gentleman or find ourselves accused of ageism? And is not liking girls in that way sexism? Surely sex is the one area where you're allowed to discriminate without having to explain yourself before an Equality Appeals Tribunal. And before the letters start can I just say for the record I'm into everyone. Except the Spanish. They're short and have annoying voices.
