Distance: 4.5k Ascent: 100m/20m Duration: 1hr – 1hr 30mins Grade: Easy Terrain: Woodland, bog paths, old railway line Trailhead: Manor Hotel
Portlaoise is situated on the M7, Dublin to Limerick road. Take Exit 17 at Portlaoise, and join the N77 in the direction of Kilkenny. After 12k you reach the village of Durrow – continue straight through it. The trailhead is located at the Manor Hotel on the outskirts of the village.
Starting from the hotel, follow the green and purple arrows across the main road (N77) and join a pathway. The purple arrows are for the longer Killamuck Bog Loop. The path takes you back to the edge of the village where you turn left and follow a road for 300m before veering left.
After 100m cross the road and join a church avenue. At the end of the avenue turn left onto a forestry roadway. Continue to follow the green and purple arrows along the forestry roadway, which takes you into an area called Collin's Bog.
After 2k you exit from the bog and join a roadway where you turn left. Shortly afterwards, you join the busy N77 again, turn right, but after 100m, cross the road and join a green laneway which takes you into Killamuck Bog. After 50m, you hit a T-junction where the Killamuck Loop turns right, but you go left.
Follow the green arrows before joining an old railway line where you rejoin the Killamuck Loop. Turn left and follow the railway line to rejoin the N77 just 100m from the trailhead at the hotel.
