The date for the Irish Runner 5 Mile, the first race in the 2014 SSE Airtricity Dublin Race Series, is set for June 28 in Phoenix Park.

This year's event serve as the ideal build-up for the Dublin Marathon in October. David Carrie, coach to Team Carrie, said he would recommend runners enter the series's four races.

It's "an ideal opportunity to experience the racing environment and to gauge their training progress through the months of June, July, August and September," he said. Last year he trained more than 100 members of Team Carrie and they all completed the Dublin Marathon.

Other events in the series include: Fingal 10k in Swords, July 20; Frank Duffy 10, Phoenix Park, August 23; and Dublin Half-Marathon, Phoenix Park, September 20. For further details see: dublinmarathon.ie
