The cherry blossoms are out, and that means only one thing – spring is here, and it's time to refresh my beauty cabinet. In years gone by, that might have meant a splurge but we're all more cautious with our credit cards these days. So here are a few smart purchases, each of which is guaranteed to refresh your look.

Origins Plantscription SPF 25 Anti-aging cream, €62
This cream is lightweight, easily absorbed, and leaves complexions feeling brighter, thanks to the 300,000 raspberry plant stem cells contained in every jar, and the collection's signature anti–ageing ingredient, African Anogeissus, which promises to smooth the appearance of wrinkles. That might be a bit boastful, but the raspberry plant stem cells are renowned for their regenerative properties, and skin definitely feels firmer after a few weeks' of use. It smells lovely too!
Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Sponge-On Cream Make-up, €30
Diamonds are a girl's best friend when it comes to this light-reflecting foundation, which happens to include micronised diamond powder. This ingredient camouflages imperfections, leaving skin looking smoother and more even. But it can be cakey, so use a light hand when applying. Available in eight shades for medium-to-full
coverage.
Revlon Brilliant Strength Nail Enamel in Entice, €11
Forget spring's usual pastels and opt for a hard-edged shade such as this sophisticated mint green, which comes with its very own built-in top and base coats. These traits make this one-stop polish the perfect accessory for girls in a hurry.
L'Oreal Paris False Lash Flutter Mascara, €16.99
A smoky eye is still in this spring, but don't even think about skipping mascara. This tapered wand leaves lashes long, lifted and separated, and keeps them smudge and flake-free for hours.
Aerin Multi Color for Lips and Cheeks in Sweet Pea, €38
This blusher can create a youthful glow on your skin, but is buildable if you'd prefer a stronger look. You won't need to touch it up for four to five hours, and it's an elegant lip colour, but with less staying power. Best on combination complexions.
YSL Cream Blush in 9, €36
This softly textured rose-coloured cream is blendable and versatile. Use a dot for a natural glow, and keep layering for a more chic approach. Expensive, but it may be worth the splurge.
Soap & Glory Archery Brow Tint & Precision Shaping Pencil, €12
It's all about big brows this season, but that doesn't mean leaving brows to their own devices. So get tweezer-happy to keep any unruly hairs in check and fill in any gaps with a pencil. This double-ended one includes both a highly pigmented pen and a crayon to create a fuller look.
Estee Lauder Pure Color Sheer Lipstick in Rebel, €21
Quite opaque coverage with a creamy texture and a satin-y, iridescent finish. Good staying power and the rosy, medium shade of pink is flattering on most skin tones.
Dior Nude BB CrEme, €35 (MAIN PICTURE ALSO)
BB: a mix of light-coverage foundation, sun protector, spot treatment and moisturiser. It comes in three shades containing pink, which may be a little trying for yellow-toned complexions but will work for many Irish people. The sheer, moisturising formula works for a minimalist look with a dewy finish, perfect for day time.
