Getting into a routine can be one of the hardest things to do, but it can guarantee results. With just under eight weeks to Christmas, this is a great time to start aiming to get your body into the shape you want. Whether that be by losing a few pounds or simply looking in better shape, now is the time to start a routine.
The biggest obstacle that I see for clients is expectation. It is one of the most common reasons people give up training or eating healthily. They set too-high goals to begin with, and then after weeks of hard work and eating healthily, they do not see the results they want.
You need to set attainable goals and be under no illusion – small changes can make a big difference, and making small changes can ensure a greater likelihood of staying on track.
We are all different, and what works quickly for one person may not work as quickly for another. You need to stop comparing yourself with the other person in the gym who seems to be getting better results. You will feel better each week with small goals rather than falling at the first few hurdles.
The smallest things can make a big change to your fitness and shape, whether it be cutting out those biscuits with your cuppa, eating more green veg or changing your workout. I constantly vary my workout from heavy poundage to different styles of training, from Tabata to supersets and drop sets, to get the best possible results.
