Proper sets stadium record to take title

Kelly Proper topped the performances again in Round 2 of the Athletics Ireland Indoor League at the AIT International Arena, Athlone, on Saturday, with an impressive win in the long jump.

The Ferrybank AC athlete jumped 6.42m, improving on her season's best of 6.38m and setting a new stadium record. Sarah McCarthy (Mid Sutton AC) was second with a new indoor personal best of 6m. Elizabeth Moreland (Cushinstown AC) improved on her best 5.81m from the junior and U23 championships – jumping 5.83m in third.

Karl Griffin (UCD), an 800m silver medallist at the National Senior Indoor Track & Field Championships, dropped down a distance to the 400m and won the event in 49.47.

After her silver medal performance in the 1500m at the Senior Indoor Championships last week, Síofra Clérigh Buttner (Dundrum South Dublin AC) was back competing at her preferred 800m distance, winning in 2.06.98 from Bronagh Furlong (Slaney Olympic AC) who posted 2.12.69. Sam Healy (Leevale AC) cleared 2m to win the high jump.

In Australia, Paul Robinson (St Coca's AC) placed third in the Perth Track Classic at the Western Australia Athletics Centre, achieving a sub-four minute mile time of 3:59.56.
