Lorraine Keane speaks out about depression in show business
PRESENTER Lorraine Keane has spoken out about the black cloud of depression which she says dogs show business.
The former Xpose star said that issues of mental health are particularly prevalent among Irish celebrity circles and is something that she has witnessed.
“In the business that we’re in, there’s a lot of stress and depression,” Lorraine told the Herald.
“I think creative people generally can suffer a little bit and that’s the industry that I work in.”
The Dublin native opened up about her own brush with mental hospitals when as a teenager she visited a close friend who suffered with serious mental health issues.
“I actually spent a lot of my late teens in St Patrick’s University Hospital visiting a friend of mine,” said the brunette mother- of-two.
“So when I was in school, I used to cycle there on my bike and sneak her in McDonald’s and the same when we were in college.”
The presenter believes that without the help of mental services in helping her friend to battle her problems, she might not be where she is today.
“Thank goodness, because of the services in St Pats, she is now married with children and as happy as myself,” said the mum to Emelia (9) and Romy (6).
