I am sitting, writing this at a seven-day bootcamp in West Cork, with a group who are here to detox, get fit and lose weight.
It always amazes me how much can be achieved when you leave your environment and focus on yourself for a week. You remove the negative influences from your life; from food to work, so called friends to feeders.
Sometimes it takes time away to realise just how much these things affect your life. But then you can piece your life back together by building a plan; treating your goals as if you were a business, and working month by month, week by week, until you build small stepping stones to help you achieve those goals.
Once the goals are set, you need to plan. Plan your sessions in your diary, plan your food shop once a week and plan your treat days.
Why tell you all of the above? Simple. You can do this. From your home or in an official camp. Take seven days on your own, eliminate processed foods, cook, exercise and set aside the time to sort your life out and refocus your mind.
Looking for something healthy to do with your family?
If you find yourself in West Cork, hook up with Jim Kennedy of Atlantic Sea Kayaking for a fun and active way to explore some of the wonders the Irish waters have to offer.
Visualise, emotionalise, actualise
Are you struggling for motivation? Think back to times when you felt good and in the shape that you were happiest. Now find a photo from that time and stick it on the wall, the fridge or even your desk and use it as motivation to get yourself off the couch and out exercising.
Turkey and Mango salad
I love this salad. It’s high in lean protein, simple to make and high in fibre too.
You will need
125g tub low-fat yoghurt
1/3 cup coriander leaves, chopped
420g mixed beans
1 red onion, halved, finely sliced
